Nurturing Minds: 30 Urdu Education Poems

Ilm ik raushni, jahaalat andhera,
Jo seekhe wohi paaye, rutba sawera.
Knowledge is a light, ignorance is darkness,
He who learns attains the status of morning (brightness).
Ta’leem ka maqsad, shaoor jagaana hai,
Insaan ko insaaniyat, sikhlaana hai.
The purpose of education is to awaken consciousness,
To teach humanity to humans.

Kitaabein behtareen dost, sacha saathi,
Ilm ki daulat se, bano tum ameer baaqi.
Books are the best friends, true companions,
With the wealth of knowledge, become truly rich.

Ustaad ka adab, farz hai hamaara,
Us ki badaulat hai, mustaqbil sanwaara.
Respect for the teacher is our duty,
Thanks to him/her, the future is adorned.

Ilm ki talab, har mard-o-zan pe farz,
Isi mein chhupa hai, taraqqi ka har qarz.
The pursuit of knowledge is obligatory for every man and woman,
In this is hidden every debt (path) of progress.

Qalam ki taaqat, talwaar se bhi tez,
Ilm ki raushni, har shai se azeez.
The power of the pen is sharper than the sword,
The light of knowledge is dearer than anything.

Ta’leem yaafta qaum, kabhi na haare,
Jahaalat ke baadal, woh khud hi sanwaare. (Here, ‘sanwaare’ means to dispel/manage)
An educated nation never loses,
It itself dispels the clouds of ignorance.

Ilm woh khazaana, jo baantne se barhe,
Jaahil woh jo samjhe, yeh ghatne se ghate.
Knowledge is that treasure which increases by sharing,
Ignorant is one who thinks it decreases by diminishing (not sharing).

School-o-college, ilm ke hain gehwaare,
Raushan mustaqbil ke, bante hain sitaare.
Schools and colleges are cradles of knowledge,
They become stars of a bright future.

Ta’leem insaan ko, tameez sikhaati hai,
Achhe bure ki pehchaan, karaati hai.
Education teaches discernment to humans,
It enables the recognition of good and bad.

Ilm ki shama se, raushan karo jahaan,
Har su phailaao, aman-o-amaan.
Illuminate the world with the candle of knowledge,
Spread peace and security everywhere.

Jahaalat ki zanjeerein, ilm se todo,
Taraqqi ki raahon se, khud ko jodo.
Break the chains of ignorance with knowledge,
Connect yourself to the paths of progress.

Ilm haasil karo, chaahe jaana pade Cheen,
Yeh qaul-e-Nabi hai, is mein nahin koi bain.
Acquire knowledge, even if you have to go to China,
This is the Prophet’s (PBUH) saying, there is no doubt in it.

Ta’leem se banti hai, qaumon ki taqdeer,
Jaahil reh kar milti, sirf zillat-o-tahqeer.
The destiny of nations is made by education,
Remaining ignorant only brings disgrace and contempt.

Har lafz ik moti, har kitaab ik kaan,
Ilm ki justujoo mein, laga do apni jaan.
Every word is a pearl, every book a mine,
Devote your life to the pursuit of knowledge.

Ta’leem ke baghair, insaan hai adhoora,
Jaise koi jism, bin rooh ke ho poora (ironic).
Without education, a human is incomplete,
Like a body being complete without a soul (which is impossible).

Ilm ki raushni, dil mein jab aayegi,
Zindagi ki har mushkil, aasaan ho jaayegi.
When the light of knowledge enters the heart,
Every difficulty of life will become easy.

Parho aur parhaao, ilm phailaate jaao,
Qaum ko jahaalat se, tum hi bachaao.
Read and teach, keep spreading knowledge,
You alone can save the nation from ignorance.

Ta’leem ka zewar, sab se hai anmol,
Is ko pehno toh, ban jaaoge be-mol (priceless).
The ornament of education is the most priceless,
If you wear it, you will become invaluable.

Aql-o-daanish ki baatein, ilm sikhaata hai,
Insaan ko Ashraf-ul-Makhluqaat, banaata hai.
Knowledge teaches matters of intellect and wisdom,
It makes humans the noblest of creatures.

Ustaad woh me’maar, jo qaum banaaye,
Ilm ki bunyaad pe, mahal sajaaye.
Teacher is that architect who builds a nation,
Adorns a palace on the foundation of knowledge.

Ilm ik samandar, jitna piyo kam hai,
Is ki gehraai mein, har koi gum hai.
Knowledge is an ocean, however much you drink is less,
Everyone is lost in its depth.

Ta’leem ka noor, jis dil mein sama jaaye,
Woh dil kabhi bhi, andheron se na ghabraaye.
The heart in which the light of education enters,
That heart will never be afraid of darkness.

Ilm se amal ho, toh zindagi sanwar jaaye,
Duniya-o-aakhirat mein, insaan nikhar jaaye.
If knowledge leads to action, life gets adorned,
Man gets refined in this world and the hereafter.

Maa ki god pehli, darsgaah hai jaano,
Us ki ta’leem ko, sab se ooncha maano.
Know that the mother’s lap is the first school,
Consider her teaching the highest of all.

Ilm ki lagan ho, toh raaste khud banein,
Manzil ki taraf qadam, khud hi uthte chalein.
If there is a passion for knowledge, paths form themselves,
Steps towards the destination move forward on their own.

Ta’leem se badlegi, soch aur nazariya,
Raushan hoga zamaana, har ek zaawiya.
Education will change thought and perspective,
The era will be enlightened, every angle.

Kitaabon se dosti, jahaalat se doori,
Ilm ki raushni se, zindagi ho poori.
Friendship with books, distance from ignorance,
May life be complete with the light of knowledge.

Ilm woh taaqat hai, jo chheeni na jaaye,
Is daulat ke aage, har shai hech aaye.
Knowledge is that power which cannot be snatched,
Before this wealth, everything else seems insignificant.

Parh likh kar bano, qaum ka sahaara,
Raushan karo mulk ka, har ik sitaara.
Become educated and be the support of the nation,
Illuminate every star of the country.
