Raat aayi, sitaare chamke,
Chaandni ne bhi, jalwe bikhere.
Night came, stars twinkled,
The moonlight too, spread its splendors.
Khaamosh raat, gehri sochein,
Dil mein utrein, yaadein puraani.
Silent night, deep thoughts,
Old memories descend into the heart.

Raat ki tanhaai, aur tera khayaal,
Karta hai dil ko, har dam be-haal.
The loneliness of the night, and your thought,
Makes the heart distressed every moment.

Chaandni raat mein, tum yaad aaye,
Aankhon se aansoo, ban kar beh aaye.
In the moonlit night, you came to mind,
Tears flowed from the eyes.

Siyaah raat, aur lamba safar,
Ummeed ka diya, jalaate hain magar.
Dark night, and a long journey,
But I keep the lamp of hope lit.

Raat ki chaadar, odhe hue gham,
Sitaaron se karte, baatein hain hum.
Wrapped in the sheet of night, sorrows are covered,
I converse with the stars.

Shab-e-firaaq, kat’ti nahin aasaani se,
Har aahat pe dil, darta hai veeraani se.
The night of separation doesn’t pass easily,
At every sound, the heart fears desolation.

Raat ka sannaata, aur dil ki sadaa,
Kaun sunega, tere siwa Khuda.
The silence of the night, and the heart’s call,
Who will listen, besides You, O God.

Taaron bhari raat, aur teri yaad saath,
Kat jaayegi yunhi, yeh andheri raat.
A star-filled night, and your memory along,
This dark night will pass just like this.

Raat ke parde mein, chhupe hain raaz kai,
Khwaab ban kar aate, woh andaaz kai.
Many secrets are hidden in the veil of night,
Many of those styles come as dreams.

Udaas raat hai, chaand bhi hai malool,
Teri kami ka ehsaas, hai fazool. (Dil ko samjhane ki koshish)
The night is sad, the moon is also melancholic,
The feeling of your absence is futile. (An attempt to console the heart)

Raat ki aaghosh mein, sukoon paata hoon,
Din bhar ki thakan, bhool jaata hoon.
In the lap of the night, I find peace,
I forget the day’s fatigue.

Jaagti aankhon mein, raat kat jaati hai,
Yaadon ki baaraat, jab aa jaati hai.
The night passes in wakeful eyes,
When the procession of memories arrives.

Khwaabon ki duniya, raat ko sajti hai,
Dil ki har khwaahish, wahaan poori hoti hai.
The world of dreams is adorned at night,
Every desire of the heart is fulfilled there.

Raat ki raani, mehekti hai jab,
Teri khushboo ka, gumaan hota hai tab.
When the “Queen of the Night” (flower) fragrances,
Then I suspect it’s your scent.

Andheri raat mein, jugnu chamakte hain,
Ummeed ke deep, yunhi jalte hain.
Fireflies glow in the dark night,
Lamps of hope burn just like that.

Raat ka musaafir, chaand hai akela,
Jaise mera dil, tere bin hai maila.
The night’s traveler, the moon, is alone,
Just as my heart is sullied (sad) without you.

Shab ki siyaahi, jab barhne lage,
Dil mein teri yaad, aur garne lage.
When the darkness of night begins to increase,

Raat ke saaye, lambe hote jaayein,
Khauf tanhaai ke, dil ko sataayein.

Yeh pursukoon raat, yeh thandi hawa,
Kaash tu bhi hota, mere saathiya.

Raat guzar jaayegi, subah phir aayegi,
Magar teri yaad, hamesha sataayegi.

Sitaaron ki mehfil, raat bhar jami rahe,
Dil mein teri chaahat, yunhi basi rahe.

Jo dil mein chhupa ho, woh raaz kehti hai.

Ik nayi subah ka, deti hai yeh lagan.

Raat dhal jaayegi, baat reh jaayegi,
Teri meri kahaani, duniya gaayegi.
